Introduction

It's been a bit more than a year since I originally thought of this project, trying to scope a Suikoden game project to the very minimum effort to create something that I think would be fun.

I came back from the then-new Star Wars movie in the theater, and thought about the Star Wars franchise as a whole, and how it was great that they had all these different kinds of media telling stories in the Star Wars universe. Having spent so much time with the Suikoden franchise and universe in the past, my next thought was how disappointing that this wasn't happening anymore for Suikoden. There were a few years during the height of the franchise popularity that novelizations and side story games were coming out, but those dried out pretty quickly, and the dev team even ended up giving up on exploring the universe in the mainline games.

So I started brainstorming on the Suikosource forums, and eventually came up with the idea to make stories, kind of similar to the Greenhill ghost hunt but a bit bigger (half hour to an hour), with more going on. No combat, just telling stories. I decided each episode/volume would focus on different kids (what better way to justify the lack of combat?). Telling all the stories in the same place I think will help make the place come alive, and helps me reuse assets from episode to episode.

The setting I came up with? Kanakan!, It always sounded like a fun place, so why not explore what's going on in Kanakan? I chose post-Suikoden II.

The first volume is in rough draft/alpha mode. I'll be continually updating this as time goes on. I appreciate feedback, as I'm trying to polish it for release. Map design will change, I will try and improve what assets are there, and I still need some end credits.  But it should be playable from end to end. If you're stuck somewhere, have technical problems, or for some other reason it isn't working, I want to know so I can fix it!
